Non-New Smiles Patients
Did you know that any teen in the community can get their wisdom teeth removed at New Smiles? It’s true! Take advantage of all the below resources, even if you’re not one of our [fabulous] regular dental patients.
Multiple Sedation Options
Not all dentists have the training and certification for the wide range of sedation options needed for safe and effective wisdom teeth removal. Our team has extensive training so we’re specifically ready for teens in surgery.
PRF Treatments
This is one of the secrets to our success. Our dentists use platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) treatments for our patients. This helps speed recovery. Make this process easier on your child and take advantage of our PRF resources!
This is also why teens who come to New Smiles don’t get dry sockets. In the last 2000 cases, we’ve had zero dry-socket cases!
Safe Surgical Suites
At New Smiles, we have two surgical suites. Our dentists and dedicated surgical team not only employ a “sterile field,” they also have all the specialty surgical tools and needs separate from the rest of the dental practice, right on hand. This keeps the traffic area to a minimum, ensuring another layer of safety and protection for your teen through the surgical process.
Post-Op Care
Our New Smiles team will ensure you understand and follow all post-operative care instructions. This includes but is not limited to managing pain, taking prescribed medications, applying ice as directed (we’ll give you the supplies!), attending follow-up appointments, avoiding overexertion, getting the recommended rest, maintaining proper oral hygiene, avoiding hard, crunchy, or chewy foods, and avoiding suction (no straws or vigorous rinsing!)
We also meet with each patient a week after surgery to ensure healing is going smoothly. We leave nothing to chance.
Most people feel some anxiety about wisdom teeth removal—and that’s completely normal. At New Smiles, we focus on comfort, so we often recommend Moderate IV Sedation for a calm, stress-free visit.
We deliver IV sedation through a small IV so you can relax in a “twilight sleep” state during treatment. If needed, we may also give an in-office oral medication beforehand to ease nerves. Prefer a lighter option? We offer Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas), too.
With IV sedation, many patients remember little—or nothing—thanks to its amnesic effects. Your doctor and a dedicated assistant stay with you the entire time to monitor your safety and comfort.
Sedation can last beyond your appointment, so you’ll need a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you afterward. We’ll review post-op instructions with you and your caregiver and answer all questions before you leave.

We understand that wisdom teeth extractions, or 3rd molars, can be the first surgery our patients ever receive. As a result, we do everything possible to make you and your child feel at ease from a welcoming and friendly environment to calming anesthesia services.
Before surgery begins, we’ll provide one or a combination of anesthesia services to ensure the patient is relaxed and pain-free throughout.
Teens will be able to return home the same day and typically only need over-the-counter medication to control any swelling or discomfort during recovery. They will need a driver to take them home, though, as they will be groggy post-surgery.
We’ll review post-operative instructions at the appointment. We encourage you to follow them closely for a shortened recovery time.
If you have any questions as you heal, please reach out to our surgical team at any time!
